Weaving Purpose, People, and Partnerships: Introducing WovenWell

October 6, 2026

WovenWell’s new sign is installed at the office.

By Jennifer Barborak, Executive Director & CFO, WovenWell

Our staff and board are excited to share the story of Buhl Regional Health Foundation’s new name: WovenWell.  This marks a significant milestone in our history, reflecting how our work has grown and evolved since new executive leadership in 2020 and where we hope to go together next. Our rebranding advances our mission and vision as we proactively recognize and respond to the evolving well‑being needs of the Mercer County community.

WovenWell is far more than a cosmetic renaming. It’s the bold expression of six years of organizational learning, strategic sharpening, relationship‑building, team growth, and a deeper understanding of community well‑being. We remain an independent private foundation dedicated to the Mercer County area, and this new identity finally matches the way we work today and the momentum carrying us forward.

Our deep commitment to collaboration and partnership is the driving force behind this new identity. We devote countless hours to studying data and listening closely to our partners, transforming those insights into community‑centered decisions that strengthen well‑being throughout our area. At the same time, we focus on building strong partnerships, effective programs, and organizational capacity to support those already addressing community needs, while directing targeted grants toward efforts that elevate well‑being and deliver measurable results.

Living and working in Mercer County means being part of a community defined by our history and local pride. WovenWell is a strategic shift in our identity, but not in our mission. It carries important implications for Mercer County, as the name change reflects the Foundation’s evolution toward broader, interconnected wellness efforts, and a shift away from a healthcare‑focused identity.

WovenWell brings into focus the way we have been working for years: moving from a foundation that tells people “you must do this” to one that sits down for coffee with organization leaders, shows up casually, speaks with, not above our partners, recognizes our shared humanity, understands that not every partner is a grant‑writing expert, and approaches the work as empathetic colleagues. It places the Foundation as a collaborator, convener, and a leader in connecting our Mercer County community.

WovenWell embodies action and movement, signaling the creation of something new, shaping and strengthening the community through interconnected relationships and collaborative solutions. We are weaving together the resources that make our region vibrant!

We hope the WovenWell name inspires people to join this movement and come to us with innovative ideas and partnership‑driven goals that go beyond traditional notions of “health.” This name finally reflects who we are as a Foundation, now and in the future. WovenWell aligns with our mission, vision, and values. It reflects how we work, continually moving, connecting, and creating!
