Community Investment
Investing in the ideas and opportunities that help our community thrive.
WovenWell supports community-driven initiatives through competitive grants, scholarships, strategic and collaborative investments, and responsive support. Our investments are guided by community needs, local strengths, evidence, and the Seven Vital Conditions for Health and Well-Being.
How we invest
- Competitive grant opportunities — Annual and additional opportunities tied to defined priorities.
- Rolling mini-grants — Smaller requests considered throughout the year while funding remains available.
- Scholarships — Support for degrees, diplomas, certificates, technical education, training, and other paths that strengthen community well-being.
- Strategic and collaborative investments — Opportunities developed with partners when a need or possibility calls for a different funding approach.
- Responsive support — Action that helps address an urgent or emerging community need.
What guides decisions
We consider how an initiative responds to community experience, advances well-being, aligns with current priorities, builds on local strengths, and contributes to lasting impact. WovenWell’s approach is informed by the Seven Vital Conditions framework advanced by The Rippel Foundation.
Our Approach
Understanding what helps a community thrive.
Our approach begins with listening. We bring community voice, local experience, data, and trusted frameworks together to better understand where action is needed and how WovenWell can contribute.
We listen before we act
People closest to an experience often understand its barriers, strengths, and possibilities most clearly. Conversations, surveys, partnerships, convenings, program participation, and applicant perspectives all help shape how we learn and respond.
We see well-being as interconnected
Well-being is influenced by far more than medical care. Housing, transportation, food and safety, belonging, education, the natural environment, and opportunities for meaningful work all affect whether people can thrive.
WovenWell’s approach is informed by the Seven Vital Conditions for Health and Well-Being, a framework advanced by The Rippel Foundation.
- Basic Needs for Health & Safety
- Humane Housing
- Reliable Transportation
- Lifelong Learning
- Meaningful Work & Wealth

We balance urgent needs and lasting conditions
Communities need both immediate support and long-term change. WovenWell responds to urgent needs while also investing in the conditions, relationships, and capacity that can create lasting impact.
We work in more than one way
Depending on the need and opportunity, our role may be to invest, respond, connect, or strengthen and learn. Often, meaningful work includes more than one of these roles—and is shaped alongside community partners rather than by WovenWell alone.
We keep learning
Our understanding should never be static. We use data, community voice, implementation experience, and shared reflection to adjust our work and make learning useful to others.
